Mid 19th century, approximate four gallon capacity, glossy olive brown alkaline glazed stoneware of an ovoid form, having a high collar with inner ledge, applied wheel thrown handles, stamped above one handle with four circular impressed marks each with an inner raised "X" (these stamps may have represented capacity).

Overall very good estate condition considering age and use; collar with .5 in. rim chip; some glaze irregularities and shallow chips to the handles; base roughness; some interior glaze erosion. Examined with black light.
