Late 19th-early 20th century, Aiken County, SC, stoneware with Albany slip exterior glaze, the first bowl stamped on the band below the rim "JGB / 2" for Joseph Gregory Baynham (5 3/4 x 12 1/4 in.); the second bowl, similar in glaze and form but not stamped, likely from the same pottery site (5 1/4 x 11 in.).

Private Collection, South Carolina

Joseph came to the area around 1865 and was well known for his use of Albany slip as well as the traditional wood ash alkaline glaze. Based on items excavated from the kiln site, Baynham's pottery was still in operation in 1889. An image of this potter's stamp is pictured Great and Noble Jar, by Cindy Baldwin p. 218.
