Two Cased Quarterplate Tintypes of Armed Union Soldiers
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Both photographs are from the same makeshift studio having a dirt floor and canvas backdrop, possibly with a national flag in the upper right, the first image depicts a sergeant armed with two revolvers and a musket while his associate (friend? brother?) has two spur trigger revolvers and a musket, both are wearing regulation uniforms and accoutrements; the second image is of a single soldier armed with musket, sheathed fighting knife and two revolvers, and wearing a rectangular stamped brass militia belt plate with a star device.

From a private West Virginia collection

Good surfaces and contrasts to the image; some green verdigris on the mat over the single soldier; one case with green verdigris to the mat. Lids, present, detached from both cases.
