Western North Carolina, circa 1800, white pine butt-joined case with all over original red paint, rectangular hinged lid with snipe hinges, base of case with applied molding and raised on bold shaped bracket foot base.

Underside of lid and bottom board with remnants of Asheville News, North Carolina 1852 newspaper adhered to the surface.

Original paint and feet; missing molding to left and front side of lid; wear and scraping to top; wear at top of front board by escutcheon.
