Oil on panel, unsigned, three-quarter length, the man wearing a yellow doublet with armored collar (gorget) in the Italian style, red and white ribbons tied at shoulders above white sleeves with leaf motif, full ruff, and holding a sword hilt in left hand, presented in an antique frame.

Panel 16 3/4 x 13 1/2 in.; Frame dimensions 23 1/2 x 19 1/2 in.

Panel has split in two; wax applied to verso of panel; minor spot retouch to sitter's face visible under UV light; retouch to vertical split in panel visible under UV light; chipping to frame.
