Mid 19th century, two part form, secret hinged lid opening to reveal three false drawers and open compartment surmounted by a sarcophagus form with sliding top board to reveal an open compartment, the desk with two hinged cabinet doors, doors and case sides featuring intricate foliate, vine and avian inlays with distinctive central Punch and Judy characters, fine desk interior with burl walnut veneers, central prospect door with secret release, eleven small drawers, the base with pull-out writing desk with ink-well, opening to a divided interior, raised on tall ring turned legs and stretcher base, button foot.
