Antique Mahogany Knife Box and Sugar Nips

Late 18th century, serpentine form case with inlaid ivory escutcheon and shaped ring pull, lid interior having a star within oval banded inlay, divided interior with light and dark wood linear inlay, flush base (14 1/2 x 14 1/2 x 9 in.). Included with the lot is an 1866 Raleigh North Carolina fifty cent note, and a pair of early 19th century sugar nips, hand-wrought steel, having "D" shaped cutters with sprung handles, unmarked; together with a civil war period North Carolina note.

Veneer with some expected shrinkage cracks and later repairs to edges; later hinges; some scattered inlay loss; nips with nicks to blades from use.
