19th century, France, carved marble figure of a Classical maiden reading with ormolu bird attending, she rests legs on exposed root tree trunk and seated on a cubic plinth, the center having round enamel dial with Arabic numeral hour markers, now with battery operated movement, above a conforming gray polished marble plinth, the sides with ormolu relief panel scenes of Bacchanalian putti carried in turbulent sea waves, raised on turned ormolu feet.

A project clock; some scattered chipping to base and figure; crack to upper tree mass; loss to figure's index finger; some rubbing and spotting to ormolu. Face and movement rest loosely within the case; hour and minute hands detached but present with the lot.
