Attributed Thomas Krause (Bethabara, NC), Moravian Earthenware Basin of Large Proportions

1798-1843 Forsyth County, NC. The basin, circular in form, notably with large applied finger grooved strap handles terminating in three faint imprints, the interior glazed with a dark brown manganese tinted glaze, the glaze generally wiped or worn from the rim and handles, not signed.

Note the presence of a similar large round pot in an image p.10 "Turners and Burners" by Charles Zug. Similar to an example on page 138 of "Moravian Potters in North Carolina" by John Bivens.

Hairline from on each side, one with rim chip above the hairline; other insignificant chips. A wire runs beneath the upper rim and has worn through the surface where it rubbed, purpose unknown.
