American Classical Carved Mahogany Tall Post Bed

Circa 1830-1840, the four posts are well developed with bold turnings and hand carved acanthus leaves, 6.5 inch pineapple finials are connected with a wooden dowel, double paneled headboard surmounted with a wave-crest arch with central shell, rounded footboard, unusual twist hook joinery for the rails.

Headboard 86 x 68 in. (without finials); interior rail 72 x 58 in., floor to bottom of rail 17 in.

According to family history, at one point this bed resided in Bacon's Castle, Surry, Virginia.

General scraping and wear from use and consistent with age; all posts with square patches above rails; headboard with cut/repair to upper left arm; headboard right post with small chip/loss at upper headboard joint.
