Salt glazed stoneware with some orange peel and extensive area of salt glaze runs, the semi-ovoid jar has a flange rim over applied ear handles, faint semi-circular stamp below the rim beside a surface scrape and a strong stamp "JM LOY " below the inscribed "5".

Handle above the stamp has had restoration; some upper rim chips along with an area where the glaze is lifting on the rim and the handle edge below; 5 1/2 in. where a fill repair is lifting, likely placed to stabilize a hairline beneath; some interior residue from former use.
