Chris (Christine) Ranes was born in Warsaw, Poland but escaped to the United States after WWII.

She began her art studies at the Pratt Institute in New York, and later earned her MFA from Santa Clara University. A noted abstract expressionist, she settled in Palo Alto, California. Her works have been exhibited at the Smithsonian Institute, Washington, D.C.; Santa Barbara Museum of Art, California; San Jose Museum of Art, California; Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York; and Hilles Art Gallery, Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts; and others.
