Circa 1800, painted metal face with two subsidiary dials, upper arched section with a family interior scene (note the two ghost-like figures), each spandrel decorated with figures from the four corners of the world, the face partially marked J & T Black, Kirkcaldy (Scotland), the mahogany and mahogany veneered case with a broken arched pediment with applied brass rosettes and final, two fully turned columns flanking a glazed tombstone door, the waist with curved panels, half columns and hinged bow-front door, paneled base on short turned feet, with two weights, winding key and pendulum.
87 x 20 x 10 in.
Old but later brass finial; some joint separation at pediment trim; the face with crazingand some paint loss; missing waist door escutcheon; no case key or lock; separation to lower front panel surround; slight warp and separation to lower left side of case; later rear base boards to the back; likely later feet.
