Juliet Barrus, a native of Kinston, North Carolina, received her Bachelors degree in art from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She continued in the Fine Arts Program in Art and Design at East Carolina University and later attended the New York School of Design. She also spent years studying with Sarah Blakeslee, whom she credits as "teaching her to see."
