Oil on canvas, unsigned, late 19th century, presented in a period gilt frame with composition ornament in a delicate floral design.

Stretcher size 28 1/4 x 22 in.; Frame dimensions 33 1/2 x 27 1/2 in.

The original portrait, completed circa 1797, is in the collection of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.

Elizabeth Beale Bordley Gibson (1777-1863) was born to John Beale and Sarah Bordley in Annapolis, Maryland. The Bordleys were family friends of the Washingtons. Elizabeth developed a particularly close friendship with Eleanor "Nelly" Parke Custis Lewis, the youngest granddaughter of George and Martha Washington.
