1842, watercolor on ivory, showing a half length portrait of a Clergyman dressed in Anglican robe and necktie against an olive green ground, the verso with pencil inscription "Miss C. Deming / Montreal 1842," presented behind glass in a period gilt frame with gilt brass liner marked "I PRICE."

Portrait 3 5/8 x 2 3/4 in.; Frame dimensions 7 x 6 1/2 in.

An American portrait miniature artist, Charlotte Deming is known to have executed several miniatures in Canada, including clergymen, judges and other prominent citizens in Montreal from 1843 to 1847. The Portrait Miniature Collection at the Library and Archives Canada (LAC) includes many prominent portrait miniature artists, including American artists Charlotte Deming, James Peale and Henry Colton Shumway.
