Lucy Kettlewell studied at the Chicago Art Institute and Emerson College in Boston. In 1958, she and her husband moved to Saratoga Springs, New York. It was here, amidst a rapidly changing urban landscape, that she found her voice. Kettlewell was particularly interested in documenting the older architecture of the city that was quickly disappearing due to urban renewal.

A prolific and intuitive painter, Kettlewell later moved to Camden, Maine. Here, she reveled in the rural landscape. Kettlewell continued painting right up until her last day.

This painting depicts an older home, struck by bright sunlight, on Phila Street in Saratoga Springs. The street was named after a daughter of Gideon and Doanda Putnam, credited as the city founders in the late 18th century.

Good estate condition.
