Circa 1850, clean line scrolled form with six layers of laminated wood, red moire silk upholstery, including a serpentine sofa (35 x 76 x 28 in.), and a pair of side chairs (37 x 19 x 22 in., seat height 16 in.), unmarked.

Belter gained his woodworking skills in Germany and later perfected the use of lamination which would become his signature for strengthening the graceful lines of his carved rosewood furniture from the 1840s-60s in New York. These pieces are a good example showing the use of six layers of rosewood laminate.

Later upholstery with some staining and seam separations to the seat of the sofa; all are structurally sound.

The sofa with an area of chipping to the crest rail at the center rear edge; crack/repair to the rear right leg at stile joint; crack/repair to rear left leg; sun fading to the back and left side; crack/repair to the crest rail near the left central scroll; some white scuffs to the bottom edge of the seat rail.

The first side chair with two scuffs to the front left back rail under scroll; a few tight veneer cracks to the seat rail sides.

The second side chair with sun fading especially to the back; the rear reset with plug; veneer chip to the left seat rail.
