Singer was among the top three manufacturers in Great Britain. The series Nine was produced from 1933-1937, then from 1939 to 1949 as a roadster only. A Sport model placed thirteenth at Le Mans in 1933. In celebration they produced the Le Mans model in 1933. The car could top 66 mph and competed in many endurance races.
This car was the subject of a full restoration commissioned by a Dr. Frank Gump of New Jersey circa 2009. It is equipped currently with a 1275cc A series engine likely from an MG Midget, and the corresponding four speed manual transmission with a ribbed case. This was a substantial increase in power over the 972cc 30-ish horsepower engine that came originally with the car. As a fully restored car to original, the swap was performed by a well respected shop commissioned by the previous owner. An original engine and transmission are in good running order on a pallet.
The exterior of the car in a traditional British Racing Green with black wheels and a silver grille. The brightwork stands out among the dark paint. The original restoration presented red spoke wheels, fender wells, and grille to correspond with the rich Ox Blood leather interior. The wheels and fenders were painted black and the grille silver by the current owner. The original folding windscreen is present but not installed on the car. Rather, two small windscreens are installed to present a sleeker look, but prohibit the top from being employed. Also with 18"x4.5" Rudge-Whitworth style knock off spoke wheels.

From a Private Collection of a Gentleman Asheboro, North Carolina Documents include correspondence with many specialists in England, and it appears the car began life as a Sports Model, and as a result of the restoration, contains parts from both a Sports and a Le Mans model. Dave Hardwick, Aa Singer specialist in England, confirms in letters that this car is in fact a four seater Sports model converted to a Le Mans 2 seater. As evidenced by the high floor, The Le Mans model had dropped chassis, where as the Sport was flat. The car spent time in California, Wisconsin, and finally NJ/NY before coming to NC in 2016 where it has had 2 owners. Also documented was an arduous search for an original engine and gearbox, that was ultimately located and built in England.
More information and photos to follow, as there is a lot of documentation for this car. The modifications to this car have only improved the drivability of it. The original drivetrain is included at expense of transport.
The following condition report, while thorough, is not exhaustive as vintage cars have inherent wear and imperfections. We welcome personal inspections.
In overall wonderful condition; few areas of concern to paint and chrome; battery shut off switch installed; many of the original parts remain; tends to jump out of first gear at low speed unless holding lever; no apparent concerns.
