Impressive 19th Century Harvard University Photograph Album
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
(New York: Pach Brothers, Photographers, 1888), oblong 4to (10 x 14 in.), leather bound, the top board gold stamped "Harvard / '88 / Wm. Ropes," additional gold to page edges, rules on cover, and spine; the contents open with forty-two (42) anonymous cabinet card portraits of gentlemen who were likely administrators, instructors and, possibly, some who were older students. These luminaries are followed by six (6) 4 x 5-1/2 in. views of Cambridge and conclude with sixteen (16) 7 x 9 in. campus images and a parade of ten group portraits showing clubs, societies, and sports teams. Named organizations include the Hasty Pudding Club, Pierian Sodality, Harvard Glee Club, Pi Eta, Zeta Psi, The Harvard Monthly, and Everett Athenaeum.

Some wear and scuffs to boards; gilt intact; tight binding; the images and leaves are in excellent condition. Overall a splendid presentation.
