Gustave Cimiotti, Jr. studied at the Art Students League in New York before traveling to Paris in 1899 to study at the Academie Julian and the Delacluse Academy. After returning to New York, he maintained an art studio at the Tenth Street Studio Building. Here he became close friends with other artists in the building, including William Merritt Chase, Winslow Homer and John La Farge.

Cimiotti traveled extensively, with many trips to Bermuda, Vermont and Monhegan Island. He exhibited frequently, showing at the Paris World's Fair in 1900 and the 1913 Armory Show in New York. He was also a beloved instructor, teaching at the Berkshire Summer School of Art, the Montclair Museum School, the Whitney Museum School and the Pratt Institute.
