Born in Rotterdam, Holland, Loet Vanderveen grew up up across the street from a local zoo, where he developed a deep love for the animal kingdom. Vanderveen began his formative artistic training after leaving the fashion design industry, studying the challenging art of reduced glazes with a master ceramicist Fong Chow in New York. Vanderveen and his partner and artist, Alba Hayward, moved to Big Sur in California where they built a large ceramic studio and here he spent formative years creating ceramic sculptures of animals with bronze elements. In 1985, Vanderveen began working exclusively in bronze, creating his iconic modernist sculptures that are included in many private and public collections worldwide, including The Cousteau Society, Mrs. David Rockefeller, Prince Bendar al Faisal, Mary Tyler Moore, Whoopie Goldberg, Julie Andrews and H.M Queen Elizabeth.

Good estate condition; undersides with minor rubbing to patina.
