Lot Details & Additional Photographs
The collection's fifty images are housed in a deluxe tooled leather album patented by William W. Harding of Philadelphia on October 17, 1865; embellishments include heavily gilt page edges, faux pearls inset on the boards, and ornate gilt floral patterns throughout; the CDVs consist of both photographs and lithographs, sometimes in multiples variously having or lacking a distributor's backmark. Eleven (11) images depict Lincoln by himself; while over twenty (20) repeating images show Lincoln with his family; other topics present are Lincoln's deathbed scene, his apotheosis to heaven and a welcome by George Washington; the Peace Commission of 1865; an Indiana well dug by Lincoln during his youth; the Lincolns' Springfield home; U.S. Grant with a child (usually labeled "Grant in Peace").
