A traditional depiction of the scene of mourning over the body of Jesus after the Crucifixion. Joseph of Arimathea stands at upper left, supporting the body of Christ, while the mother of Christ swoons at his feet and is supported by St. John. The entire scene is presented in a theatrical manner, with all figures depicted in the elongated Mannerist style.
