Acrylic on canvas, signed and dated 1997 at lower left, presented in an attractive gilt frame.

Stretcher size 24 x 36 in.; Frame dimensions 30 x 42 in.

Purchased directly from the artist by the consignors in 1997.

In conversation with the consignors, Mr. Hayes indicated the man driving the tractor in this painting was his father.

A watercolor of this scene was on loan from the artist's family and exhibited at the Fisher University Union at UNC-Wilmington.

Ivey Hayes was born in Pender County, North Carolina. He graduated from what is now known as North Carolina Central University in 1970. He continued his studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned his MFA in 1975 from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

In 2006, his work was featured in an exhibit, "Five American Artists," at the Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington, North Carolina. He was in proud company, alongside works by Romare Bearden, Minnie Evans, Faith Ringgold and Big Al Carter.

The North Carolina Central University in Durham, presented a retrospective exhibition of Hayes' work in 2012.
