18th century, having a shaped edge over reserves each of which is painted with a single large flower, the plates are centered with a depiction of an exotic garden, marked on the underside with the factory mark of an axe.

13 1/2 and 12 in.

Private Collection, Greensboro, North Carolina

Established in 1657, De Porceleyne Bijl (The Porcelain Axe) factory was purchased in 1739 by Justus Brouwer (died 1775) who sometimes used the factory marks.
