Early 20th century, patinated cast bronze plaque depicting the minted bas relief profile design of 16th President in profile, incised mark to lower right corner "Copyright 1907 by V.D. Brenner," the lower edge reading "ABRAHAM LINCOLN/ **1809 * 1865 **," presented on a conforming green marble backing with bronze stand mount to verso.

Bronze plaque 9 1/2 x 7 in; marble 10 3/4 x 8 1/2 in.

Born in Lithuania in 1871, Victor David Brenner studied at the Académie Julian in Paris, and immigrated to the United States in 1890. While working on a commissioned portrait of Theodore Roosevelt, a similar work was noticed in the artist's studio of Lincoln, and it was recommended that the design be used for the new penny to be issued in 1909.

Some minor marks to Lincoln's coat; marble with cracks and associated repair; missing one screw to verso.
