(24) brightly enamel painted aluminum undulating ribbons, ink signed and dated 1992 to reverse of one piece, all inscribed to verso for arrangement, consisting of twelve shorter ribbons (each approximately 17 x 5 1/2 x 6 3/4 in.), and twelve longer ribbons (each approximately 90 x 5 1/2 x 6 3/4 in.).

The Estate of the late Frank Daniels, Jr. and his wife Julia Jones Daniels, Raleigh, North Carolina. A portion of the sale proceeds will be donated to the North Carolina Museum of History Foundation

A prolific and talented artist, Gillespie shared her talents by teaching and lecturing at various colleges throughout her lifetime. Her exuberant colorful dancing strips and ribbons have graced many public spaces including an installation of 185 sculptures that comprise “Color, Light and Motion” to fill the plaza in front of New York’s Rockefeller Center in 2003. Her sculptures may be found in numerous public collections and museums including the North Carolina Museum of Art, Raleigh, NC; Thalian Hall, Wilmington, NC; Asheville Art Museum; and more.

Some surface dust; most pieces with mounting strips from wall display; some pieces with minor abrasions and areas of enamel loss. Work has been disassembled from its original format.
