First half 19th century, likely English, the female in circa 1830s style hair and fashion, presented behind glass in a period wood and ormolu frame (sight size 2 3/4 x 2 1/4 in.; frame 8 1/4 x 7 1/4 in.); the second of a Gentleman in brown coat, backing inscribed "R. Brereton / 1836," with pencil study of the sitter, framed (sight size 4 x 3 in.; frame 7 1/4 x 6 1/8 in.).
Private Collection, Aiken, South Carolina Wear and some chipping to both frames; male portrait with cracks and losses, some associated retouch, has been mounted to copper plate for rigidity). Female frame backing affixed, unable to examine outside of frame.
