Cased Ninth-Plate Tintype Showing a Union Pioneer of the 147th New York Infantry
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
A rare image, this wild-eyed soldier sports the cross axes of the Pioneer Brigade on his tunic sleeve; the thermoplastic case housing his portrait has "147 N.Y." carved into the central streamer on the top panel.

Private North Carolina Collection

The rough and tumble Pioneer Brigade served in the Army of the Cumberland during its Tennessee campaigns.

The image and the case are both in very good condition.
