Born in New Haven, Connecticut, Earl Collins was a marine artist and a sailor. After serving in the US Army during WWII, he returned to Paris and studied with the Swiss artist Rudolph Eicher. He spent the next several years as Master or Captain of numerous ocean trawlers and merchant ships.

In 1971, Collins became a member of the American Society of Marine Artists. His paintings are in numerous prominent public and private collections, including the Chrysler Museum in Norfolk, Virginia and the US Navy Collection.
