Kenny Scharf was born in Los Angeles, California. In 1980, he received his BFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York. While living in New York, Scharf met and was mentored by Andy Warhol, and friends with many other East Village artists, including Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring.

Scharf maintains a primary residence and studio in Los Angeles. His paintings and sculpture and other works are in numerous prominent public collections including The Bass in Miami, The Broad Foundation in Los Angeles, The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and many others.
