Diego Sanchez was born in Bogotá, Colombia, South America. He arrived in the United States in the summer of 1980. He obtained a BFA and an MFA from the Painting and Printmaking Department from Virginia Commonwealth University. He has been teaching art classes for over 25 years to people of all ages and he is currently the Chair of the Art Department at St. Catherine’s School. He was the first recipient of the Theresa Pollak Artist of the Year Award. In 2011 he received the VisArts Distinguished Service Award and in 2018 he was a Virginia Commission for the Arts 50 for 50 Award recipient.

Diego's works have been shown throughout Virginia, and he has participated in shows in Peru, Italy, Belgium, Hungary, Colombia, and France.
