Robert York holds a master’s in fine art, studio painting from the University of North Carolina. After working in several capacities for various periodicals and corporations, he accepted a teaching position at Averett University in Danville, Virginia. He later moved to Sanibel Island, Florida, and was a founder of The Barrier Islands Artist group, has held professorships in fine art, and served as member and former president of the Florida Artists Group.
