George III Carved Mahogany Bureau Bookcase

Late 18th century, mahogany veneer, oak and pine secondary, two-part form, upper bookcase with broken arched pediment featuring an applied carved and gilt shell and foliate cartouche, cove molded cornice with gadrooned edge, two hinged glazed doors with shaped and gadrooned frame, white painted interior with two louvered shelves, the bureau with hinged lid with breadboard ends and lipped edge, well-developed stepped interior with ten small drawers and five pigeon holes, the case with four graduated lipped drawers, the base with repeating gadrooned edge on shaped bracket feet.

Old but later gilt carved cartouche; later white paint; some veneer patches and repair to door surrounds; slant lid with dark staining and marring to exterior and interior; break at left hinge; some interior drawers in need of drawer-stops; later pulls with drilled and now plugged holes; the right side of the lower case with a tight shrinkage crack; the left side of the lower case with old marring; feet are old and appear original with some hairline cracks; however, the rear right foot facing has been cut/replaced the lower four inches.
