As follows: cased sixth-plate ambrotype of a gentleman identified as "A.V. Smith / Red Hill / Ballard"; plus a cased ninth-plate ambrotype of a very serious lad. Included is a late 19th century souvenir labeled, in part: "This Little NAIL is Made from the ARMOR PLATE of the CONFEDERATE RAM VIRGINIA Commonly known as the MERRIMAC, which achieved Fame in Hampton Roads, March, 1862 / OLD DOMINION IRION & NAIL WORKS CO., RICHMOND, VIRGINIA." (The nail's card is 7 x 6 in.)

The ambrotypes with some peripheral emulsion loss; the relic nail has slipped down the card and had some rust as expected.
