George III Inlaid Mahogany Tall Case Clock, John Montjoy

Third quarter 18th century, brass and silverplate face reading "John Montjoy Cork", with Roman numerals, second dial and calendar dial, the hood with a hinged glazed tombstone door flanked by fully turned reeded coloumns with brass capitals, broken arched pediemtn with brass eagle finial and fan inlays, the frieze with pinwheel and line inlays, the waist door with shaped and molded edge featuring conch shell, corner fan and line inlays, the base with repeating inlays on a straight bracket foot base, with two weights, winding key and pendulum.

Purchased Reese's Antiques, 1968, Charlotte, North Carolina; this clock had a recent extensive restoration to the mechanisms by Thomas England. The case retains an attractive warm patina throughout with good variation in the inlays to the mahogany.

The face with expected tarnishing to the silverplate and gilding; lacking case key; likely later brass finial; the waist door with chip/repair to upper left corner; waist door with warp; old but likely later bracket foot base; chip/loss to upper right lower corner of arched cornice; left side of hood with warp and veneer patch; old crack near bottom hinge area to waist door (but stable); other expected minor areas of age appropriate wear
