Both watercolor on paper, signed; the larger, Gray Day Mallards is dated 1924 (Frame dimensions 20 3/4 x 24 3/4 in.); the second is not dated (Frame dimensions 16 3/4 x 20 3/4 in.). Both framed under glass within custom mats with lettered titles.

Joseph Day Knap was originally from Scottdale, Pennsylvania and graduated from Columbia University in 1897. An avid sportsman, he began selling his watercolors of geese and ducks in 1924. In 1937, his design was used for the federal stamp for duck hunting licenses. He illustrated numerous magazines and his work was exhibited at Kennedy Galleries, Crossroads of Sport and Abercrombie & Fitch Co. in New York and Ackermann Galleries in London.
