Louisiana-based artist, Paul Douglas Wegner, has gained acclaim for his free-floating bronze sculptures of important Jazz and Blues musicians, earning him the “Key to the City” of New Orleans by the Mayor in 1989, where he was made an “Honorary Citizen” in appreciation for all his sculptural works related to Jazz and New Orleans.
Paul got his start working on a commission through the National Geographic Society in 1976, in which Wegner created 9 life-size figures of primitive man.
Other commissions and projects by the artist include a sculpture of W.C. Handy (Father of Blues) in 1988 for the First Heritage Museum in Memphis, Tennessee, and a large scale monument unveiled in 2000 at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland honoring the more than 50 submarines and servicemen lost at sea in the last century.
