Worked in multi-color silk thread on fine linen ground, the rows of colorful alphabet worked above a cartouche with verse, "Let joy or ease let affluence or content / And the gay conscience of a life well spent / Calm every thought inspire every grace / Glow in thy heart and smile upon thy face", stitched below are the names James White / Agnes White, likely the maker's parents, above the maker's name, "Agnes White / Aged 10 / Pennycuik 1817", bottom register with home surrounded by floral and figural motifs, all within a floral and sawtooth border, presented under glass in an early walnut frame.
