Born in Chicago, Abbott Pattison was an American sculptor and painter influenced by figural classicism, modernism, and abstraction. He received a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Yale University in 1937-1939. Pattison then served in the US Navy as a Captain of Destroyer Escort and P.C. Sub-Chaser during WWII.
He was represented by Fairweather-Hardin Gallery in Chicago; the Alwin Gallery, London and the Downtown Gallery, New York City. His exhibition history includes prestigious museums including the Art Institute of Chicago, Metropolitan Museum, Corcoran Museum, Whitney Museum, and the Pennsylvania Academy, and many others. Pattison's works are in numerous university and private collections, including University of Notre Dame, University of Georgia, the Meninger Foundation, the Hirschorn Collection, and the U.S. State Department (four sculptures). Abbott is the recipient of various awards and has completed commissioned public works around the country.
