André-Charles Caron (French, 20th Century), Josephine (Baker) Bal Negré
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Lithographic poster in colors, 1927, printed by M. Ducelier, Paris, framed.

This poster pictures famed Jazz-Age dancer, singer, and actress, Josephine Baker, alongside her partner Joe Alex at the Bal Negré in Paris. Josephine's performances were considered sensational and slightly scandalous at the time, and the visual representations of the entertainer as seen here are clearly outdated. Baker went on to become the first African American woman to star in a motion picture, and this remains one of the most famous images of the Jazz Age.

Frame dimensions 34 1/4 x 28 in.

Condition A/A-: Some very slight toning, otherwise very good condition; not examined out of frame.
