North Carolina artist Peter Butler received his BFA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1976, and his work is present in significant national public and private collections. Recurring themes in Butler's work include swimming subjects - he was a professional swimmer himself - as well as cows, as seen in the work offered here. Butler is interested in similarities between human and cow expressions, and he explores this in his portraits of the animals.
