Jules Trayer was born in Paris and trained under his father, a landscape painter, and Justin Lequien at the Académie Suisse in Paris. Well known as a genre painter, many of his works depict scenes set in Brittany. Trayer regularly exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1847 onwards.

On newer stretchers; very minor scattered retouch visible under UV light; minor flaking to frame.
