Attributed Enoch Craven (Randolph County, NC, 1810-1893), Eight Gallon Crock
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Salt glazed ovoid stoneware, heavily salt spotted along with drips from the brick kiln and fly ash drips, the highly arched curved thumbprint handles extend from the lower shoulder to below the rim, applied over the distinctive wide band of coggle wheel decoration. Designed to store a liquid, the lower handles, now missing, would have been an aid in lifting the heavy crock.

19 1/2 x 12 in.

Collection of a Gentleman, Greensboro, North Carolina

Minute glaze loss within the coggle wheel design which does not detract; loss of lower handles.
