The first late 18th century, Philadelphia school, featuring a distinctive shaped back with nine spindles, shaped plank seat, splayed stretcher base featuring faux bamboo turnings (34.75 x 18 x 16.5 in., seat height 16.5 in.); the second late 18th century, probably New England, a hoop back side chair, reeded hoop back frame, seven spindle back, shaped plank seat, splayed leg stretcher base with bulbous turnings (36.5 x 18.5 x 17 in., seat height 17 in.).

From the Estate of the late Elinor Crittenton Strobel, Davidson, North Carolina, formerly Litchfield, Connecticut

The first: shrinkage split at top of crest rail; old but later paint.
