Thomas McNickle is a native and long-time resident of north-west Pennsylvania. The rural landscape of his surroundings and his Amish neighbors provide much of the inspiration for his work. He is a member of the American and National Watercolor Societies. McNickle's work has been exhibited in over fifty museum and gallery exhibitions including a mid-career retrospective at the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio.

Thomas McNickle’s work can be found in numerous public collections including the Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown, Ohio; the Mint Museum of Art, Charlotte, North Carolina; the Hoyt Institute of Fine Art, New Castle, Pennsylvania; the Gibbes Museum of Art, Charleston, South Carolina; and the Morris Museum of Art, Augusta, Georgia.
