Alice Ehrlich was born in Beaufort, North Carolina, but moved with her family as a young girl to Raleigh. She was a graduate from Meredith College with a major in Art and also studied at UNC-Greensboro, at UNC-Chapel Hill and at the Art Students league in New York.

Alice taught Art at Needham Broughton High School for twenty-three years, briefly at Charles B. Aycock School in Greensboro, Fred Olds School, Meredith College and also at NC State University. Her own work as a painter was exhibited at the Horace Williams House Museum of Arts’ in Chapel Hill and is in the Permanent Collection at the NC Museum of Art in Raleigh, she has also exhibited at the Weatherspoon Gallery in Greensboro, and with the Fine Arts Society in Raleigh. Alice was also known for her published articles on painting and art education in professional art journals.
