Herbert Hooven was an American impressionist best known for his forest interior scenes. His formal studies were completed at the Pennsylvania Museum and School of Industrial Art, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the Beaux Arts Institute of Design in New York. He later held teaching positions at the University of Michigan, Valparaiso University, Ohio University and Syracuse University. Hoover's paintings were exhibited in the Paris Salons as well as with traveling exhibitions organized by the Fellowship of the Pennsylvania Academy and the American Federation of Women's Clubs.]
