Pierre Le Faguays was born in Nantes, France, and became a leading figural sculptor synonymous with the Art Deco Movement, known for his idealized graceful depictions of the female form. Fayral and Guerbe were two pseudonyms the artist often used throughout his life. Pierre also produced designs for Goldscheider in Paris under the "La Stele" label. He worked in several mediums including ivory, bronze, spelter, stone, wood, alabaster and ceramics. Pierre gained a medal of honour for his work in 1927.
Pierre studied at the Ecole des Beau-Arts in Geneva, where he became life-long friends with Max Le Verrier of the Le Verrier foundry (active 1891-1973). Max opened his own studio and foundry in Paris after serving in WWI. In addition to casting his own works, Max also cast many of Pierre's works as well as other leading sculptors of the era, such as Marcel Bouraine, at the Verrier foundry.
